The company was started in 1851 when brothers Benjamin and Robert Knight bought their first mill and started producing cotton cloth and textiles in Warwick, Rhode Island.
Fruit of the Loom® was registered as an official trademark in 1871, making it one of the world’s oldest brands and today Fruit of the Loom is a global apparel business.

The T-shirts from Fruit of the Loom bear some highly-recognizable names. Lofteez is the oldest and perhaps the most widely known Fruit T-shirt style: it’s made from a superweight 6.1 oz. spun 100% cotton fabric that is pre-shrunk, and it is the signature T-shirt from Fruit of the Loom.
But a newcomer is making a mark, too: the Heavy Cotton HD™ t-shirt is now available (the HD is short for High-Density). This shirt has the tightest weave ever produced by Fruit of the Loom, making it soft to the touch yet incredibly strong and resilient. You won’t wear out this T-shirt!
Both the Lofteez and the HD options are available as long sleeves and V-necks, and the HD is available in a couple different weight options, with different cuts for Men, Women and Kids.
Fruit of the Loom even offers a new garment dyed T-shirt option for 2013, too!
Fruit of the Loom also offers some of the most well-made sweatshirts in the apparel industry.
From crewnecks to hoodies and zipper fleece, Fruit is a powerhouse when it comes to well-built, athletic-looking sweatshirt styles.
Fruit offers each of their sweatshirt styles in several weights. The 12 oz. Supercotton™ 70/30 Fleece Crew is as warm and heavyweight a sweatshirt as you will find from any mill, made from incredibly thick fleece.
The 8 oz. Fruit of the Loom Best 50/50 fleece is a standard weight sweatshirt, made of equal parts cotton and polyester. That means no shrinking whatsoever, in a configuration that’s not too heavy, but not too lightweight, either. These 8 oz. sweatshirts are offered in a huge numer of color options, too!
Also made from equal parts cotton and polyester (again, no shrinking whatsoever!), Fruit of the Loom has opted for a fleece garment weight that is slightly lighter than normal, calling it ‘trans-seasonal wear.”
No matter what they call it, you can wear this sweatshirt pretty much any month you wish, and it won’t be too heavy or light. This new Generation 6™ fleece is available in crewneck and pullover-hoodie styles.
The sweatpants options from Fruit of the Loom are also fantastic: a Fruit of the Loom 8 oz. Best™ 50/50 Fleece Pants with Pockets, and a brand new 6.3 oz. Generation 6™ 50/50 Pant. Either option has an open-bottom style and side vented pockets with an interior drawstring. A nice step in cut for the price of a basic fleece sweatpant.
